About Mike Garber

I’ve spent the almost 2 decades working across commercial productivity, operations, and organizational development.

This site is where I write about that work: how organizations perform, how people operate within them, and why improving results is rarely as simple as changing a process or introducing a new tool.

My perspective comes from several overlapping parts of my life. I’m an experienced practitioner, the author of From Busy to Better: Redefining Productivity for the Modern Commercial Team, a consultant, and an EdD student In Organizational Development.

I’m particularly interested in the space between organizational intent and actual performance. Companies generally know what they want to accomplish, but the harder questions concern how work gets organized, how decisions get made, and how people and systems either reinforce or undermine the desired results.

The ideas here are my own. Some come from professional experience, some from consulting, some from writing and research, and others from questions I’m still working through. This is a place to explore those connections without pretending they fit into perfectly separate categories.

As my academic work develops, I may eventually give formal research and publications their own home. 

Consulting

I occasionally work with organizations on commercial productivity, organizational effectiveness, and related challenges. Consulting engagements are contracted and billed through TDS Consulting LLC.

  I am a fan of psychometric instruments and heuristic exercises. Many times, the tools are self-assessments. These serve an important function in self-awareness and self-realization but do also run a risk of being skewed towards traits that the individual feels are more important or desirable. The Breakdown Among Vision, Strategy, and Execution

  Many years ago, while in banking, I realized something very important.  Success typically comes from proper execution of a tailored strategy to achieve an agreed-on and viable vision. Most of what is done in any organization is based on this. If you look at anything you do, you should be able to tie it directly back to a vision. This could be a vision internally implemented, such as the enablement of your sales and CS teams to create great customer experiences.
